Life Science Immersion Program
This intensive certificate program uses industry-driven curriculum to give graduates the business acumen to successfully transition into industrial careers.
Through a combination of interactive industry presentations, case studies and team projects, graduates of the program will gain:
- Practical understanding of the functional units of a life sciences company;
- Familiarity with the San Diego regional business environment; and
- Their own life science industry network built on interactions with peers, case study work with experts in the field, and possible employment opportunities.

Business Environment
Gain appreciation of life sciences business principles and practices, including teamwork, project management, and important communication skills; and values in the regulated business environment.
Understand the life science business environment by targeting information and skills needed for successful interaction and performance.
Finance
Ability to explain financing mechanisms and how they impact day-to-day research and development activities.
Capability to read and understand financial plans, budgets and reports and apply fiscal realities to research and development operations.
Product/Process/Regulatory Development
Ability to explain the integration of translational functions – product, process and regulatory development – and understand the implications on all stages of research and development activities.
Assess the impact of scale, process control, and compliance on bench-scale processes developing into clinical and commercial-scale production.
Marketing/Sales/Business Development
Appreciate the role and importance of marketing, sales, business development and intellectual property in commercialization.
Ability to understand the process of identifying a market and strategies for gaining financial backing, brokering partnerships or commercializing products.
