Established over 10 years ago and dedicated to the memory of BIOCOM co-founder, architect James McGraw, the BIOCOM Scholarship and Education Fund recognizes and supports those students demonstrating academic excellence and a desire to pursue research in a broad range of life sciences related technologies.
The BIOCOM scholarship is administered by The San Diego Foundation. Students interested in applying must submit the Common Application Form along with the required supporting documentation.

Scholarship Eligibility
The BIOCOM Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who will attend an accredited two-year college or four-year college or university in the United States. To be considered for this scholarship, applicants should:
- Demonstrate a likelihood of achieving academic success with primary emphasis in biology, chemistry, physical or computational sciences, or biomedical engineering
- Have a commitment to serving the San Diego life sciences community
- Have an overall high school GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Maintain a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale while in college
- Exhibit the leadership traits as evidenced by James McGraw:
- Civic and personal leadership
- Passion for Life Sciences
- Personal integrity and character
- Extra-curricular involvement
- Financial need will also be considered.
NOTE: This scholarship is not intended for students who wish to become practicing physicians.
The BIOCOM Scholarship may be renewable for up to four years, provided the recipient maintains a positive academic record. This scholarship may be used for tuition, books, fees, and room and board.
Average number of awards per year: 5
Average amount of award to each student per year: $1,500
