Hired Intern Information

Congratulations on obtaining an EDGE Internship!

Step 1:

Register with The Eastridge Group for all payment services and to receive a time sheet. Bring documentation showing that you are legally eligible to work in the U.S.

Step 2:

Record working hours and breaks on your time sheet. You are required to record your in time, the time you leave for your meal break, the time you return from your meal break, and the time you leave work. Per our labor laws "in California, an employer may not employ an employee for a work period of more than five hours per day without providing the employee with a meal period of not less than thirty minutes, except that if the total work period per day of the employee is no more than six hours, the meal period may be waived by mutual consent of both the employer and employee."

The EDGE program only has a fixed amount of funding for each internship. Due to the terms of the grant, interns are not permitted to work more than 8 hours in a day, or 40 hours in a workweek (not including your meal breaks).

Working more than 8 hours in one day, triggers overtime pay. If you work more than 8 hours in one day, you will need to work fewer hours on your next time sheet to make up for it. For example, if you reported on your last timesheet that you worked 4 10 hour days, EDGE was charged for 8 hours of overtime (2 hours in excess of 8 hours per day, for 4 days). This means that EDGE was charged 8 hours at 150% of your hourly rate, instead of 100%. So on your next timecard, you would need to work and report 4 hours fewer or 36 hours for the week, in order for this to be corrected.

Overtime hours = Reduction in Internship hours= Reduced learning

Please do not work more than 8 hours in one day, or more than 40 hours in one week. Failure to comply will lead to reduction in internship hours and/or administrative action.

Step 3:

You will be emailed announcements and important information during your internship. As an EDGE Intern, you must reply in a timely manner.
